MIAMI– Panther Nation got its first look at FIU men's basketball's inaugural squad under
Joey Cantens as the team battled OVC favorite Murray State, but fell 86-79.
"Coming into FIU and having all this support has been awesome," Cantens said postgame. "Everybody supports everbody here, even the coaches, and to have all that tonight was great... It was a good test for us, I think Murray State is a team that plays in the NCAA Tournament this season and we were right there with them for the whole game, just had a six minute lapse that they took advantage of. It was good to have a test like this."
Trey Beamer led the way with 21 points, seven boards and two blocks and
Seydina N'Diaye had 12 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Corey Caulker had nine points and dished four assists while
Tijan Saine Jr. added eight points.
FIU has ten days to prep for the season opener.
