BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB's Sierra Frazier hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to send the FIU softball team to a 3-1 setback in the middle game of a three-game Conference USA series on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (15-17, 2-6 CUSA) scored their lone run of the game on a RBI single by
Isabella Perez in the top of the third, marking her team-leading 19th run driven in this season.
FIU left a total of six runners on base in the loss – five of them in scoring position.
Freshman
Ella Whitney (2-9) took the loss for the Panthers after tossing six innings and allowing nine hits and three runs. She walked two and struck out two.
Olivia Valbak (4-4) notched the win for UAB with four innings of work that saw her limit the Panthers to three hits and a run. She walked four and fanned two.
Sarah Cespedes picked up her second save of the season by pitching the final three innings in relief, while allowing no runs and one hit.
