MIAMI (March 4, 2022) – Despite another stellar outing from
Patrick Pridgen, the FIU baseball team fell 4-2 to the visiting UConn Huskies on Friday night.
The reigning Conference USA Pitcher of the Week shined again tossing six innings of one unearned run ball with 11 strikeouts. Pridgen now has 32 punchouts in 17.2 total innings this season.
Seven different Panthers collected hits in the weekend opener with RBI singles coming off the bats of
Adrian Figueroa and
Matthew Gonzalez for the two Panther runs.
Alec Sanchez walked once and swiped a bag while
Steven Ondina extended his reached base safely streak to 24-games dating back to 2021.
UCONN opened the scoring in the second on a Panther error before Figueroa's single scored Sanchez to notched the game at 1-1 after four.
A pitching duel commenced until the seventh when the two teams traded runs.
Dante Girardi scored on the Gonzalez single to tie it at two-all.
The Huskies tacked on a pair of runs off the FIU bullpen in the ninth to take the series by a score of 4-2.
Angel Tiburcio was tagged with the loss.

FIU and UCONN will play in game two of the weekend set at FIU Baseball Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
