MIAMI - The Green may be Mean, but North Texas had no answer for FIU forward Elisa Carey's monster performance on Saturday afternoon. The FIU women's basketball team downed North Texas, 72-55, to sweep its first conference series of the year and win its third straight game - a feat not achieved since the 2007-08 season.

Carey dominated the floor, shooting 8-for-10 from the field and 10-for-10 from the free throw line to lead the Panthers (11-13, 6-7) for the fourth game in a row with a career-high 26 points and a game-high 14 rebounds - her seventh double-double of the season.

Senior Michelle Gonzalez coolly sank a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final minute en route to 15 points and freshman Finda Mansare finished with a career high 14 points. Brittney James led North Texas (6-18, 3-10) with 13 points.

Though FIU held a consistent lead in the first half, North Texas gained some momentum late, cutting it to three with 3:55 to go when James scored down low over Carey. FIU put Raquel Cuffie on the free throw line 30 seconds later, and she converted both attempts, 24-23.

Senior Cherisse Buddy drained a contested three from the right side, but the Mean Green wouldn't allow the shot to slow them down.  James hit a three and gave North Texas its first lead, 29-28, with 55 seconds remaining.

Buddy came up big again with a runner despite being fouled. She sank the extra shot and FIU regained the lead, 32-28, as the teams headed into the locker room.

The teams exchanged baskets in the opening minutes before Fanni Hutlassa swished a three from the left side. She stole the ball on North Texas' next possession, which led to a Monika Bosilj three from the right baseline to up the score, 40-33 with 15:55 to go.

North Texas crept back into the game with free throws, 42-40, before Gonzalez hit a three from the top of the key to spur FIU on a 9-0 run. The Mean Green chipped away at the lead and once again got within three-points, 53-50, with 5:26 to go. Carey took control, scoring the next seven points and surpassed her career high at the 4:28 mark when she got fouled on a good layup.

The Panthers never looked back and Mansare capped the game with a layup. Up next, FIU heads out for its final two road games on Wednesday at South Alabama at 8:05 p.m. eastern.

FIU went 18-for-19 from the free throw line on Saturday.
