MIAMI The Florida International University women’s basketball team has received a National Letter of Intent from Lake Mary High School guard Asia Wilson for the November early signing period, it was announced today by head coach Cindy Russo.

“I like Asia because she is a player who knows what she is all about,” said Russo.  “She is very mature for her age and is a great leader.”

Wilson, a 5-6 shooting guard who is ranked No. 25 in the state of Florida by FloridaHoops.com for the Class of 2008, won the Class 6A state title with the Rams in 2005.  She played as a shooting guard that year before moving to point guard in 2006, a season in which she was named the team’s offensive player of the year.  She is the third Lake Mary player to sign with a Division I school in this year’s class.

She attended the AGS All-America Camp in the summer of 2004 and was a second-team all-county selection in 2005.  She averages 14 points and five steals per game.

The Golden Panthers (1-0) face No. 24 DePaul at the DePaul Invitational tonight at 8 p.m. (ET).  FIU concludes action in Chicago on Saturday against No. 18 Florida State.
