Miami, Fla. (FIUSports.com) – FIU football Head Coach
Ron Turner has announced the hiring of
Cameron Turner as an assistant coach for the Panthers, working with the quarterback and wide receivers.
Turner comes to FIU after two seasons working with the Minnesota Vikings as Assistant to Head Coach Leslie Frazier and his staff. Turner served as liaison for the coaching
department to all departments of the Minnesota Vikings and NFL Officials. He coordinated daily/weekly schedules and team travel itineraries. On game day, Turner handled the game day inactive list, charted game management for the offense and defense, responsible
for clock management, timeouts, coaches’ challenges and rules. He additionally was charged with formulating and managing the coaching budget.
“Cameron will bring a lot of energy to the program,” said (Ron) Turner. “He is a tremendous teacher and communicator and will do a great job relating to the student-athletes.”
After his playing days at The Citadel concluded in 2009, Turner transitioned to the program’s coaching staff. A quarterback and wide receiver for the Bulldogs from 2006-09,
Turner would coach the receivers and assisted with special teams in 2010. Along with his coaching duties, Turner coordinated Citadel recruiting, served as team liaison with academic and military issues and coordinated all team community service projects. His
primary recruiting regions were 10 states throughout the Midwest and West regions.
A four-time Citadel Scholar-Athlete, Turner earned a spot on the 2009 Southern Conference All-Academic Team. Turner graduated from The Citadel in 2010 with a degree in Business
Administration. While at The Citadel, Turner was five-time Dean’s List recipient; two-time Gold Star recipient; Cadet Sergeant – Best Drill Sergeant in the Corps Award; and served on the Class of 2010 Board of Directors.
