Miami, Fla. (FIUSports.com) – FIU football will host two games against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium in 2013 and 2014, both schools announced today. The games are scheduled for Sept. 14, 2013 and Sept. 6, 2014.

“It’s an opportunity to establish another rivalry with an in-state school,” said Head Coach Mario Cristobal. “Coach (Brian) Jenkins has done a great job with that program.  I am looking forward to hosting them in 2013 and 2014.”

FIU and Bethune-Cookman have met on the gridiron twice before, when the Panthers first played at the FCS level (2002-04), then Division I-AA. In both meetings, the Wildcats, nationally-ranked on both occasions, defeated the Panthers.

“This is a great game for our fans and alumni,” FIU Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia said. “Bethune-Cookman is an outstanding University. It is always good to be able to play against schools from Florida.”

In addition to the game, alumni from both fan bases will enjoy the musical showcase staged by the renowned Marching Wildcats, who travel alongside and perform at all B-CU football games.
